The Finale

Well everyone, the time has come for my blog to come to a bit of an end.  Today is the last day of my class that I was writing this blog for, and I will be graduating next week (finally).  I say its a bit of an end because I might be continuing writing in here, just not a frequently.  And so I am going to say goodbye with a song, not shockingly.   This has been one of my favorite songs for a long time, its call Peace and Love by Blessid Union of Souls.  Its not the actual video but its the best I could find, so I hope you enjoy!

A New month A New Artist

Alright so last month’s artist of the month was The Eagles, so this month I had to top it, which for me means picking an artist whose cd has been one of my favorite ones since I started high school, and like it or not that was 9 and a half years ago, but this month’s artist has to be (insert imaginary drum roll here) Edwin McCain!!!!

His cd Messenger, to this day, will put me in a good mood if I hear it, so I am going to leave you with one of my favorite songs on the album and one of his most well known singles

Grammy’s

Alright the 2009 Grammy nominee’s were announced in a very awkward concert.  Not shockingly Taylor Swift and Beyonce were announced as nominee’s for album of the year and record of the year, but what was shocking is how unplanned and pretty much unnecessary the concert was.

First of all the graphics that were projected in the background did not match who was being nominated, so you would actually know who was being nominated before their name was called… sort of takes the surprise out of it huh?

Second, the Black Eyed Peas performed (because what haven’t they performed at this year?), their song might as well just been the theme song for the whole evening which, in my opinion, takes away from all of the other performers who were up for nominations.  But good for you BEP’s on you 6 Grammy nods, but maybe suggest that the same song not be played over and over again in a one hour show, trust me I hear the song enough on the radio to know that once in an hour is enough… not to mention I live above a bar and come karaoke night hearing that song makes me wish I was deaf…

I will have to say that I liked LL Cool J’s intro… even though Smokey Robinson and Ringo looked a bit thrown off by it…

Nick Jonas performed WITHOUT his brothers, and he seems to be one of those people that annoy the crap out of me and can play any instrument they touch, I just learned he could play guitar. (Im not a Jonas Brothers fan, at all)  I will have to say that I was impressed with him and his band the Administration.

Only the big awards were “announced” in the concert, and all in all I’m content without the awkward concert precursor to the Grammy’s, but I give them an A for effort as long as they stop trying.

My love of the Muppets… :)

Made everyone in my family laugh!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!!!

A bit of Christmas Cheer… Again

Its Thanksgiving so now its more acceptable that I do this, but this is an a cappella group called Straight No Chaser and if it doesn’t make you laugh, well I suppose thats just sad, enjoy!

Adam Lambert… yeah…

American Idol Adam Lambert did his first award show number at the AMA’s this week, and left a lot of people wondering, did he seriously just do that???  Incase you missed it, Lambert made sexual gestures onstage to one of his dancers, and then made out with his keyboard player, who was a male.  Lambert said that at the time it just felt right and he makes zero apologies for his acts and says that he may have gotten “carried away” during his performance.  Lambert also says that if he was not openly gay there would be none of the backlash he has faced and no controversy… you go ahead and keep thinking that Lambert and we’ll sit here and be disturbed by your performance.

For me it seems as if Lambert forgot that he was on a little TV show called American Idol and we literally saw him perform every week for MONTHS and know what a usual performance for him, yes he has become famous but that in no way gives him the right to do what he did on stage, he threw a curve ball at us and you can’t expect us to just accept that performance as one we are willing to deal with after mild ones for months before that.

AND his claims that there wouldn’t be controversy if he were an openly straight man and did what he did are completely untrue for me.  If he were a straight guy and made the sexual gestures that he did he would have women’s activists ALL OVER the news and, if a straight guy made out with a male band member, you can guarantee there would be much more of a backlash because two straight males making out onstage is even less social accepted than two gay men making out, or one gay man and one straight man… anyway, when you sell millions of records world wide and have more than one hit album, I might be more willing to accept a more obscene performance, until then, suck it up and leave those ideas in your head.

A Pandora Christmas… sort of

As I’ve written more than enough times, I am excited for Christmas and the lovely music it brings, so you can imagine my pure enjoyment when I discovered that Pandora would make me Christmas radio stations… Sadly I was let down, I know Pandora has mad just great radio stations for me for a number of artists and until the Christmas music, I was thinking that whoever thought of it was a music genius… and now I’m not so sure.

Now I realize it may be a stupid reason to have a bad opinion about the online radio provider, but I have decided that it doesn’t take into opinion anything else other than its whether its Christmas music or not, unlike its other radio stations, which I do find genius.

So if you’re looking for a combination of great and fun Christmas music, I think the list I created below might be a good place to start, and not Pandora.

Backstreet’s back!! ooooooh boo…

While going through my lovely facebook news feed I stumbled across an article that intrigued me, Backstreet Boys was in the title, and I just couldn’t resist.  Now I was a secret fan when they were popular, one of those people who said they were a terrible band around my friends, but still knew all the words to “As Long as you Love Me.”

After clicking on the article and reading a few words, I immediately noticed they were making fun of my once beloved boy band.  Thinking they must be crazy I clicked on the video to watch their new music video for the song “Bigger,” I soon discovered they were in fact in a completely right state of mind when they chose to make fun of the song.  So much so I will not be posting the video because I just have no desire to look for the embed code because it is in fact THAT bad… But you can see the article and the video for yourself here.

Be warned… its not pretty…

Creed

Here I was all prepared to write a blog about how Scott Stapp was back in Creed, when I see that they’ve released a new album (October 27th they released it to be exact).  After getting over that I am a horrible fan now, I decided to check the new album out.

The album’s first single “Rain” has already been very well received, even reaching number 1 on iTunes, and I have to say, that I very much so agree with the reviews.

I had given up on the band a few years ago after reading a few lovely quotes from Stapp’s ex-wife which I will not repeat but feel free to look up articles relating to him around 2004, you’ll see them.  I had really given up when I read Stapp was looking to do gospel music.

Anyway I was pleasantly surprised by the album, so please, if you are a forgotten fan, like me, check out their website.  The album is called “Full Circle” and it doesn’t disappoint .

Wishin I was There…

So I was going through some shows that I used to watch and I decided to watch “Charmed,” it seems completely unrelated to music, but I heard a song on it that I hadn’t heard in years, “Torn” by Natalie Imbruglia, which promptly made me go through my cd’s to see if I still had the cd with the song on it.  Sadly it was taken in the year of 3 car break ins, but! through the joys of technology I was able download the whole cd, as well as a few other cd’s that were lost over the years, and I’ve got to say, I still very much so enjoy all of the music, and so comes another list of my favorite cd’s… from 8th grade through high school.

  1. Dawson’s Creek Soundtrack 1,2 (dont fight me on it)
  2. Vertical Horizon
  3. Edwin McCain Messenger (i still love every song off of that cd and know all the words to not one, but all of the songs)
  4. Creed- Human Clay AND Weathered… I think I’ll take heat for that one but I say bring it on
  5. Natalie Imbruglia- Left of the Middle
  6. Nelly Furtado- Whoa Nelly
  7. City of Angels soundtrack (weirdly enough where I discovered my love for Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton)

Oh it makes me miss the 90′s….
