music to get you through the week

This week was midterms week for me, therefore it consisted of very little sleep, a lot of caffeine, and high amounts of stress.  But! I made it through (did very well on my tests I might add) and this play list helped me through it… I’ll group them into the areas that they helped me in :)

studying:

  • The Way You Make me Feel- Michael Jackson
  • Dig- Incubus
  • Life is a Highway- Tom Cochrane (NOT the Rascal Flatts version…not that its not a good song, I just prefer the other version :) )
  • Keep on Rockin me Baby- Steve Miller Band
  • Ohh Ahh- Gritz
  • Sex on Fire- Kings of Leon
  • Ventura Highway- America
  • Have You Ever Seen the Rain- Creedance Clearwater Revival
  • Make Up you Mind- Theory of a Deadman
  • Lucky- Jason Mraz and Colbie Callet
  • Champagne High- Sister Hazel
  • Carry on our Wayward Son- Kansas
  • Life’s Been Good to me So Far- Joe Walsh
  • Warning- Incubus
  • Lay me Down- The Wreckers

Frustrated from studying…

  • Bad Girlfriend- Theory of a Deadman
  • Sweet Sacrifice- Evanescence
  • Show Me How to Live- Audioslave
  • Dangerous- Ying Yang Twins (you can tell I’m a little over the frustration here and trying to get back to sane and happy again)
  • Patron Tequila- Paradiso Girls
  • You- Atmosphere
  • Party in the USA- Miley Cyrus (I have an eclectic taste…)
  • Who’s Your Daddy- Mook n’ Fair
  • You Know I’m no Good- Amy Whinehouse
  • Church- T-Pain

Trying to sleep and not think about my test the next day but still doing it anyway…

  • Song for a Winters Night- Sarah Mclachlan (its not as bad now that it snowed…)
  • Revelry- Kings of Leon
  • Time in a Bottle- Jim Croce
  • Wild Horses- Rolling Stones
  • Raining on Sunday- Keith Urban
  • In the Waiting Line- Zero Seven
  • Somewhere In Between- Lifehouse
  • Hold You in my Arms- Ray LaMontagne
  • Storm- Lifehouse (and by now I was fiiiinally asleep)

Just a great show

Alright I wanted to start off with music that is seriously undiscovered, especially as a live show.  If you don’t like irish music, or music that doesn’t have singing or whatever you’re reason may be, I am absolutely begging you to have an open mind and give this one a shot.

I’m going to start with the person who I think you may have a better chance of recognizing.

If you have seen PBS you know that sometimes they have music videos, one of them being this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpt2FkXM7cA .  That is a link to a music video of the  song “Call to the Dance” by Leahy, and Donell Leahy is the person I am talking about in this situation.  He is the lead fiddle player of the band made up of family members.

His wife is actually the one who I’ve known longer, and she is Natalie MacMaster.  This couple puts on one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen in my life, and its not just because of how well they play their instruments, but just the fact that they can move and still play at an amazing level is enough to watch.  Their band is also incredible to watch.

One person that stood out to me was Nathaniel Smith, as my dad said about him, “I have never seen anyone play the cello that hard in my entire life.”  I was sitting there in awe of how amazing this person was playing and then in a break between songs Natalie says, “and can you believe it he’s only 15!”  That comment promptly made me turn to my friend next to me and say, “well I feel like a failure at life right about now.”

The drummer J.D. Blair is equally incredible and has a real sense of humor and has a stage presence that most drummers don’t have.  Simply put, I had so much fun watching him doing what he does, because he was having so much fun doing what he does.

Matt Morin is the piano player as well as an excellent dancer.  I saw him in two shows that day and I am incredibly happy that I got to see him in both.

The show I saw them at was at Milwaukee Irish Fest.  They played every day of the festival, and according to my sister (who was there everyday, all day) every show they played was packed to standing room only.

brand new blog!!!

Alright, starting over from scratch!  If you had read my blog before, which would be all 25 of you, you know it was a crappy one complaining about kids today… I discovered I ran into some problems, one being, kids have it pretty sweet today, and the other being, I am not a parent, and I wont be for a long time especially if you read my blog, it think its best on all sides that I just don’t have children for a very very long time.

So I decided to switch things up and go with something I LOVE instead of something I complain about.

I am a photojournalism major in school and a music minor, and while yes I do love taking pictures, I have another blog devoted to that already, so I will be focusing on music!  Get excited!  Its not just going to be a indy music or pop music or latest music news blog, it will be what inspires me.

I come from a weird background in music, born from a Beetles fan and a Monkees fan, its just messed up from there if you can’t tell haha.  But in all seriousness my dad probably influences my music choice the most (he’s the Beetles fan) but he certainly doesn’t control it by any means.  Proof of this lies in my sister who is in an irish music band that plays TRADITIONAL irish and cape breton music.  (Cape Breton is in Nova Scotia, Canada) I’ve gotta say, some of the best shows I’ve seen in my life have been watching her favorite performers play.  And I’ve got to say I love some of the music, along with alternative, hip hop, rap, country, classical, classic rock, almost all 80′s music, hard rock, heavy metal, and pretty much if you name it I love it… unless its polka, I’m not the biggest fan of that… but we all have our faults.

Once I am able to upload videos you’ll here from me “face to face.” But please stay tuned!
