CMAs

The 2009 CMA’s were on last night and the top prize was given to an unexpected nominee.  Taylor Swift is now the youngest owner of an “Entertainer of the Year” statue.  This is the second time this award season that Swift has come out on top unexpectedly. (Flash back to Kanye being a moron) This is also the second time this award season that she has made history by being the first country singer to win a VMA AND is now the youngest person in history to win entertainer of the year.

And so I say, congratulations to you Taylor Swift

Aerosmith

As I wrote earlier the band Aerosmith has been having some issues and the future of the band was uncertain.  Well in recent news Aerosmith guitarist, Joe Perry, says that the band will continue, without the lead vocals of Steven Tyler, for at least a couple years.

Steven Tyler has decided not to comment for sure on his future, but Perry stands by his story.

I, for one, am slightly upset by the news, but after the longevity of the band I’m not exactly shocked.  And not only that, other bands have replaced their lead singers, like Journey, and don’t have problems packing in the crowds, lets just see if Aerosmith can stand up to the challenge.

Autotune

As most of us know, through the years many of the high profile musicians aren’t exactly musicians.  A computer program called autotune has brought us lovely “artists” such as Britney Spears and the incredibly untalented Kim Zolciak.  (I dare you to listen to “Tardy for the Party” and not want to rip your ears off)

The program tunes the person’s voice so that the pitch they are singing becomes the pitch they are supposed to be singing.  While I can understand the use of it if the singer is sick and unable to reach the appropriate notes for a tour for loving fans, I don’t understand using it to make a non talented pretty person suddenly talented.  I for one cannot stand listening to someone live and they are terrible when I have been tricked into believing that they were actually talented.

And so I say autotune… you suck.

Christmas Music!!

Alright I admit fully that I am one of those freak-of-nature people that wants it to be Christmas as soon as the temperature drops below 40 degrees, an easy fix would be to move to a warmer climate yes, but because I cannot do that everyone has to suffer listening to me talk about how it should be Christmas and me playing Christmas music.

And so for all of your benefit I am making you a list of all of my favorite Christmas CDs so you can have them in your collection for when the time is actually appropriate to be playing Christmas music:

  1. Christmas with the Rat Pack- The Rat Pack (self explanatory on that one)
  2. Brand New Year- SheDaisy (its a lot of the same carols we know and love but arranged so differently they sound brand new, and a few good originals too)
  3. When My Heart Finds Christmas- Harry Connick Jr.
  4. Beyond the Season- Garth Brooks
  5. These Are the Special Times- Celine Dion (“The Prayer” is a reason enough to own this CD)
  6. Barenaked for the Holidays- Barenaked Ladies
  7. Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)- Mariah Carey
  8. Elvis Presley Christmas duets- NEW LAST YEAR!
  9. Any of the Manheim Steamroller Christmas CD’s (I believe I was afraid of a couple of the songs when I was a kid, thankfully I grew out of it)
  10. and finally! A Christmas Together- John Denver and The Muppets (don’t even try and make fun I will defend that choice until the day I die)

Hope this helps with your Christmas music selection :)

Review

Carrie Underwood’s new CD came out this week!  I was very excited, I am listening to it again and I still have the same reaction I did the first time I heard it, which was “eh.”  I still stand by “Cowboy Casanova” and I really like “Undo It” and “Songs Like This,” but “Mama’s Song” COMPLETELY throws off those three songs, not saying there can’t be love songs in combination an ex bashing song, but the other three songs are fun and you could dance to, “Mama’s Song” is sweet and boring and completely clashes for me.

The album sort of sounds like a repeat of itself, a lot of the songs sound really familiar to me and not like she’s branched out too much.

All and all I stand by my original feelings about it, eh, its not bad but its not an album I need to have all the song on.

played all week…

I have been listening to Carrie Underwood almost non-stop this entire week (and probably annoyed my neighbors in the process as I have a tendency to sing along…).  The reason for this is, not only do I sing before he cheats at karaoke, but I heard her new single “Cowboy Casanova.”

The song pretty much hits the mark on every guy I’ve dated, seem really great, and end up being just a HUGE mess to deal with, and its got sort of a rock/pop feel to it that makes it fit in much better with a lot of music that I usually listen to.

She has a new album coming out November 3rd entitled “Play On” so mark your calenders Carrie Underwood fans!  I am certainly excited to hear what the rest of the album has to offer.

Something new!

Alright because it is hard to find new artists to talk about every week that I think REALLY NEED to be talked about I’m going to try something new, I am adding an artist of the month!

November’s artist will be (there’s a drum roll promise) THE EAGLES!!!

The Eagles have been one of my favorite bands for as long as I can remember.  In fact, I remember singing along to Hotel California in the living room of our second house… so I was in first grade at the latest when that happened haha.  But they’re an amazingly talented band that has stood the test of time selling out every show of their last tour.

So cheers to The Eagles!!

I am incredibly jealous

As the whole world has heard, Michael Jackson’s movie is coming out October 28th, well play play close attention to the guitarist in the movie, a girl whose talents I desperately want and just might dream about.

Her name is from Orianthi, and her guitar playing is absolutely incredible to watch, even a person who doesn’t respect any sort of rock music would HAVE to respect the pure talent this girl has on the instrument, and so incredible in fact, i might even go on my myspace and attempt to become friends with her even though I haven’t been on myspace in about 6 months.  At the age of 18 she was already playing with great guitarists, such as Carlos Santana and B.B. King, and Santana said that if he had to pass the baton on to anyone, she would be his first choice.  And to top that off, she sings too, so basically after you watch a video of her playing and singing, please wait a month before watching one of my videos so you have time to forget how great she is and my playing might sound less like the jingle cats in comparison to her.

She also has a new album that came out today! so be sure to check that out, and watch the video posted!

Fuel

One of my favorite bands of all time is Fuel.  Most people probably know their song “Shimmer” but they have had multiple hit records since then.  A couple years ago the band lost its front man Brett Scallions and drummer Kevin Miller, but picked up some incredible replacements.  The new singer Toryn Green was discovered in an open audition that the band held and is an awesome replacement.  Tommy Stewart, the new drummer, is also a strong replacement having come from a little band known as Godsmack, which of course is complete sarcasm and they are in fact a very well known and high earning band.

In the past couple years the band has released a record, toured, and has since not been heard from.  Certain contract negotiations have hindered them making new music and even their website is lacking its usual updates for fans.

So as a loyal Fuel fan, I have to ask, pleeeeeeeeeeease when will there be new music?

A New Oldie

Just a song that I absolutely loved in high school :) hope you enjoy it!
